Youth Online: Digital Safety & Exposure to Online Violence

CFHR is pleased to launch its latest diagnostic brief → Youth Online: Digital Safety & Exposure to Online Violence

Based on a digital safety survey distributed to youth nationwide, the findings highlight urgent gaps:

  • Fewer than 1 in 4 youth feel safe on social media
  • More than 75% of youth have experienced or witnessed digital violence or harassment
  • 2 in 3 youth received unwanted or inappropriate messages
  • Only 6% of victims of online abuse sought support or advice
  • 2 in 3 believe stronger laws and enforcement are key to safer online spaces
  • 54% of youth want to be part of digital safety initiatives

The brief also outlines youth-driven recommendations, ranging from nationwide digital campaigns to institutionalizing digital safety education.

As digital spaces continue to shape social and civic life, integrating youth voices into policy and platform accountability is no longer optional, it is essential.
