Building a Strong Mooting Culture in Pakistan

UCAM was founded with the goal of revitalizing Pakistan’s mooting circuit and creating awareness about the significance of moot court competitions for law students. The first moot court competition at UCL took place in 2013 under CFHR’s project with the American Bar Association – Rule of Law Initiative on strengthening due process and fair trial standards in Pakistan’s anti-terrorism courts. Since 2013, UCAM has hosted five annual national moot court competitions, each bringing together an average of 16 teams and nearly 100 law students from across Pakistan, including participants from Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Balochistan, Islamabad, Punjab, and Sindh.

Building on this success, UCAM hosted Pakistan’s first international-level moot competition in 2018, featuring teams from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, China, Sri Lanka, the United States, Prague, and Hong Kong. In March 2020, UCAM collaborated with the Department of Justice and the American Embassy in Islamabad to host the Pakistan National Rounds of the Jessup Moot Court Competition.

UCAM members have represented Pakistan in some of the world’s most prestigious mooting competitions, including:
