16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence 2023

For the 2023 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, CFHR launched its own mini #InvestToEnd campaign, urging organizations and individuals to invest in ending violence against women and girls. The campaign emphasized the importance of:

  • Strengthening laws and policies to protect women and survivors
  • Providing accessible and quality services for those affected by gender-based violence
  • Creating safer environments through awareness and preventive strategies

At CFHR, #InvestToEnd has long been a guiding principle, reflected in our work—whether through training young leaders, conducting research, supporting evidence-based policymaking, or fostering critical thinking.

The #InvestToEnd campaign featured a series of initiatives designed to raise awareness, engage communities, and advocate for sustainable investments to prevent and address violence against women.

  1. Social Media Awareness Campaign: A series of online posts and discussions to enhance public knowledge on gender-responsive investments, including nikkahnama rights, forced marriages, and minority marriage rights.
  2. #OrangeDay Bake Sale: In collaboration with Universal College Lahore’s Welfare Society, CFHR co-organized a bake sale to spark dialogue on gender-based violence and raise funds to economically empower women through legal aid, awareness, and training programs.
  3. Seminar on Child Marriage & Forced Marriages: Held at Beaconhouse Valencia Town, this seminar highlighted the challenges faced by child brides and the legal and social implications of forced marriages.
  4. Annual HeForShe Campaign: Engaging male allies in the movement to end gender-based violence, encouraging men and boys to take an active role in creating safer, more equitable communities.

Through our advocacy efforts for 2023, CFHR has reached over 32,000 individuals with legal information and awareness on women’s marriage rights and protections.

A Dual-faceted Deterrence Model: Combatting GBV through Conviction Certainty and Rehabilitation

Shahyan Naeem highlights Pakistan’s failure to protect women amid rising gender-based violence. Weakening punishments without boosting conviction rates or offender rehabilitation won’t deter crimes. A dual approach targeting legal reform and cultural change is vital for real progress.

Defining Honour: The Case of Qandeel Baloch

The Lahore High Court acquitted the accused in the Qandeel Baloch murder case due to a pardon from the victim's parents, highlighting issues within Pakistan's criminal justice system. The court's decision is criticized for its restrictive interpretation of the law and its failure to address the systemic issues contributing to impunity in honor killings.

The Convergence of Financial Violence and Polygamy in Pakistan
