CFHR and Musawi conducted 31 Know-Your-Rights (KYR) workshops for secondary and tertiary students across Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh. The KYR workshops were designed to promote awareness among youth drawn from educational institutions and various underserved communities on women’s marriage rights and the nikahnama. A total of 942 students, including 542 women, were reached through the workshops and seminars. To ensure the training was interactive and tailored for young adult audiences, the CFHR team developed a combination of traditional learning materials as well as videos, quizzes, roleplaying exercises, games, and other interactive materials to foster learning and engagement among high school and university-aged students.
The trainings were guided by a comprehensive Training and Learning Module developed specifically to enhance knowledge of the nikahnama and women’s marriage rights. To inform the design of the module and identify key knowledge gaps, a Training Needs Assessment (TNA) was conducted across various educational institutions in the four regions, gathering over a thousand responses from students nationwide.
CFHR translated KYR workshop materials into Pashto and Urdu for wider dissemination to different audiences, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These included training materials in the form of popular games Cards Against Humanity and Heads Up. Based on lessons learned and experiences from KYR sessions in Lahore and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upon request of some local partners, the project expanded the scope of the workshops and seminars to include select community sessions targeting marginalized groups who were not part of the formal educational system.
