Rights of Transgender Persons in Pakistan

As part of its efforts, CFHR undertook a project to assess the effectiveness of the 2018 Act in addressing the challenges faced by transgender individuals. Law students at CFHR’s Human Rights Clinic conducted a literature review, examining legal and societal issues under the supervision of the project lead. The policy paper:

Evaluated whether the 2018 Act adequately addresses the discrimination and marginalization of transgender individuals.
Analyzed provincial-level implementation, identifying gaps and inconsistencies in enforcement.
Assessed the socio-cultural barriers that hinder the full integration of transgender individuals into society.

Provided policy recommendations to strengthen legal protections and encourage provincial governments to take substantive action.

Thematic Clinic on Gender-Based Violence (2018-2019)

In 2018, CFHR and Arizona State University launched a clinic on gender-based violence in Pakistan, equipping students with research and advocacy skills. Students focused on maternal mortality, the two-finger test, economic costs of violence, and transgender rights, culminating in policy briefs and a visit to Mahidol University in Thailand.
